Clan MacLeod Society of Australia (South Australia) Inc.
The Clan MacLeod Society of South Australia Inc. welcomes you to to our site.
Our Clan MacLeod Society, like others around the world, is dedicated to celebrating, promoting and preserving the heritage of Clan MacLeod.
Formed in 1957, the Clan MacLeod Society of South Australia Inc. celebrated 50 unbroken years of social activities in 2007.
The MacLeod Society is at the forefront in supporting our unique Scottish heritage and culture in South Australia. We support Highland Dancing by sponsoring a trophy in The City of Adelaide Championships.
In remembrance of the long tradition of the MacLeod Chiefs’ support for the ancient art of Piping, the South Australian Society, in association with the Port Adelaide Caledonian Society Inc., sponsors a piping competition organised by the R.U. Brown Piobaireachd Society.
We work co-operatively with the MacLeod Societies in the other Australian States. Australia, along with other international Clan MacLeod Societies operating as The Associated Clan MacLeod Societies, make the MacLeods one of the world’s most dynamic clans.
We have an interesting calendar of social activities throughout the year, the highlight of which is our annual Celebration Luncheon. The MacLeods also support functions organised by other Clans and Caledonian Societies in South Australia such as Ceilidhs, Highland Gatherings and the annual Tartan Day Parade.
South Australia’s floral emblem is Sturt’s Desert Pea - Swainsona formosa.
As this brilliant flower blooms in the desert, so have the Scots blossomed in various corners of the world.
MacLeods have been a proud and colourful part of the vast Australian landscape since settlement.
Here their traditions, values and perseverance amid hardships were tested, thus living the Clan Motto - Hold Fast.
